Gold Coast's food and wine scene is amongst the most dazzling in Queensland. Driven by its location, the astonishing array of fresh produce on its doorstep, its multicultural population and by passionate and talented chefs who draw their inspiration from the far reaches of the globe, the Gold Coast has evolved a dining style all its own.
Tastes of Gold Coast 2009 has expanded to include chefs' dinners, street fiestas and fine dining. The festival will highlight Gold Coast's amazing food culture, in particular its interaction with local produce with the two week festival program running from Friday 21 August to Sunday 6 September with free entry and ticketed events at various venues across the Gold Coast.
Gaining momentum as a food and wine destination, visitors to Tastes of Gold Coast can indulge in the most wondrous sensory experience with degustation dinners at a Signature Dinner with Michael Moore or the Degustation Dinner with Celebrity Chef George Calombaris, or perhaps take part in the Q150 celebrations when the Savour Gold Coast Dinner comes to town or lift your glass at Gold Coast in a Glass Winemakers Dinner at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary or watch the Chefs Go Wild at Hyatt. Linger at the long lunches of the 3 Chefs' Do Lunch, Hinterland Gateway Festival, The Italian Lunch, Speciality Beef + Wine lunch or Toast to the Coast and taste gourmet delicacies at the Hinterland feast of Shanks & Shiraz, or on the Gold Coast with From Farm to Fairway at Tee Time, Mushrooms on Main or Interact with Local Produce at Watermark Hotel or further south why not Taste the Tweed @ Twin Towns.
Enjoy the sublime flavours of fresh seafood at Tastes of the Broadwater, Tastes of the Ocean at Sheraton Mirage or sample the best Seafood Stack on the Coast at Courtyard by Marriott. Enjoy Italian Cuisine, full-bodied wines and entertainment in that truly spontaneous Italian way at Hotel Watermark's Italiano Carnevale.
Learn how to enjoy superb cuisine at home with an exclusive cooking demonstration by the chefs from Palazzo Versace or Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort or even join in the fun when the Waterfront Food & Wine Festival introduces Celebrity Chefs Tobie Puttock, George Calombaris and Dominique Rizzo to the stage at Cararra for cooking demonstrations.
Take it nice and slow at Sheraton Mirage for a luscious afternoon or take to the skies over the Gold Coast for a Balloons & Bubbles morning breakfast. Spend the day with the whole family and enjoy the outdoor celebrations of Eurofest at Surfers Paradise, or Blends of Jazz Festival at Broadbeach.
Enjoy all things mushroom, with special mushroom-inspired dishes by the chefs in Tedder Avenue Main Beach for Mushrooms on Main.
"People of all ages will enjoy Tastes of Gold Coast, from dedicated food and wine lovers wanting to sample a host of new flavours, to families wanting a great day out with live music and children's entertainment, it's all about celebrating the Gold Coast lifestyle. The 2009 program truly offers something for everyone as we bring together our wonderful producers, chefs, winemakers and restaurateurs in a program of 31 culinary events celebrating the region," said Event Organiser Wendy Lacey.
